Staybridge Suites, the First Hotel in City’s Medical District, Hosts a Grand Opening

On May 1, 2014, the InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG) celebrated the grand opening of its first Staybridge Suites St. Petersburg hotel, located in the city’s Medical District, at 940 Fifth Avenue South.

The $20 million development, by Menna Development & Management, Inc., is the first hotel within the city’s burgeoning Medical District, conveniently situated near I-175 and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Street South. The property provides quick access to All Children’s Hospital Johns Hopkins Medicine Center, Bayfront Hospital and the numerous medical complexes in the area, and is seamlessly tied to Campbell Park.

“I am pleased to welcome Staybridge Suites to South St. Petersburg. The location’s accessibility couldn’t be better to all things great in St. Petersburg. I thank InterContinental Hotels and Menna Development & Management for choosing to invest in a city where the sun shines on all who come to live, work, and play.” – Mayor Rick Kriseman

The new 119 all-suite hotel features well-designed and spacious studio and one-bedroom suites, equipped with full kitchens and well-lit workspace stations. With over 4,000 SF of event space, including a 2,200 SF ballroom with floor-to-ceiling windows, the property is unique in its offering of an on site catering service and executive chef.

Within the decor design and in-house dining services, IHG chose to feature all things St. Petersburg. Several pieces of artwork are showcased to pay homage to the city’s thriving arts community, in addition to a beautiful glass display from The Morean Arts Center. Its weekend “Sip & Stay” promotion features the local brewery and craft beer scene, with 3 Daughters Brewery products on tap.

During an extended stay in St. Petersburg, guests will also find themselves within a few steps to an abundant selection of activities. The property is near the pedestrian bridge over I-175 that connects to Tropicana Field to attend MLB Tampa Bay Rays games, the growing campus of the University of South Florida St. Petersburg, the Duke Energy Center for the Performing Arts Mahaffey Theater, the five blossoming arts districts, and the cultural, dining, and entertainment venues of Downtown St. Petersburg. As an added convenience, Staybridge provides complimentary parking and shuttle service for all guests.

“It’s about choosing the right brand for the right market,” said Anthony Menna, president, Menna Development & Management, Inc. “The city of St. Petersburg needed a hotel brand to match its exciting and dynamic atmosphere, and the Staybridge Suites brand does just that.”
