Anthony
Menna is a true American success story and a staple to the economy in the
Tampa Bay Area. Growing up, he worked in the family business: a nine-room
hotel in Clearwater, Florida, responsible for maintenance work in the hotel
premises as well as work in housekeeping. As the business grew to include
multiple hotels, Mr. Menna gained valuable knowledge in the acquisition, renovation,
and day-to-day operations of hotel properties which has become the solid foundation
of how he develops and manages all his properties.
Today, as founder and President of Menna Development & Management, Inc.
(MDM), Mr. Menna has been directly involved in the acquisition, financing,
design and turnkey development of more than 30 hotel properties in the Tampa
Bay Area. Mr. Menna developed and operated the first hotel and suites version
of the Holiday Inn full-service hotel in the country. He has also developed
and turn-keyed six (6) full-service hotels in the Tampa Bay Area. In addition,
he has developed and operated numerous branded select service hotels and many
other non-branded hotels. Additionally, in his capacity as a General Contractor,
Mr. Menna constructed more than 60 Manchu Wok Chinese restaurants across the
United States for the start-up franchise. He has also constructed travel parks,
office buildings, numerous residences, apartments and condominium complexes.
Moreover, he also developed and constructed “The Belle Aqua Villa Townhomes”
located on Clearwater Beach that were completed in 2006. He also has under
development “The Palazzo on Bay Esplanade”, luxury condominiums
that will be constructed on Clearwater Beach.
With Mr. Menna
at the helm, MDM has become a leader in the hotel development and management
industry on the West Coast of Florida. Mr. Menna was awarded Business Man
of the Year for 2009. In 2010, MDM was ranked #10 on the Tampa Bay Business
Journal on the Commercial Development Firm Rankings List. In 2009 MDM jumped
from #16 to #10 on the Tampa Bay Business Journal on the Commercial Development
Firm Rankings List. MDM also received the Outstanding Contribution to Marriott
Award at the 2009 Marriott Owners’ Conference. In 2008, MDM was recognized
as a Top Commercial Firm by the Tampa Bay Business Journal. MDM was ranked
#5 of the Top 100 Developers by Tampa Bay Business Journal in 2007; winner
of the 2006 Business of the Year Award by the Upper Tampa Bay Regional Chamber
of Commerce; 1998 Top 100 Owners/Developers as listed in Hotel Business Magazine;
and among the Top 200 Hotel Management Companies in the United States by Hotel
Business Magazine. In 1997 Mr. Menna received the Newcomer of the Year Award
from Holiday Inns World Wide.
In addition to the foregoing, Mr. Menna’s hotels have won many prestigious
awards over the years. In 2010 the St. Petersburg Marriott Clearwater hotel
was nominated for the 2009 Operation of the Year Award for a Full Service
Marriott Hotel by Marriott International. In 2009, the St. Petersburg Marriott
was awarded Business of the Year by the St. Petersburg Chamber Foundation
and the Residence Inn Northpointe was awarded Business of the Year by Pasco
County, FL. Also in 2009, the Residence Inn Northpointe awarded the highest
distinction of Platinum Hotel Award and the Most Improvement – Maintenance
and Upkeep award from Marriott International. In 2009, the Residence Inn Oldsmar
was awarded the Business of the Year Award by the Upper Tampa Bay Regional
Chamber of Commerce. In 2008, his Residence Inn in Lutz, FL was awarded the
Industry of the Year Award for New Business in Pasco County, FL and was awarded
for Guest Satisfaction and was upgraded to Platinum status as well as receiving
the Design and Construction Excellence Award given at the 2009 Marriott Owner’s
Conference; it was also appointed the first green lodging hotel in Pasco County,
FL by the Florida Green Lodging Program.
The Radisson Hotel and Conference Center,
now the St. Petersburg Marriott Clearwater, has received Carlson's President's
Award for 6 consecutive years; was ranked #1 Southeast Top Performer by Carlson
Hospitality in 2007; received the Tampa Bay Regional Planning Council’s
Future of the Region Development Award and Honors for Notable Achievement
in Resource and Planning in 2002; and received the Pinellas Mid-County Chamber’s
2002 Business Distinction Award for Design. In addition, The Residence Inn
in Oldsmar, FL received the Business of the Year Award for 2009. His Courtyard
by Marriott in Oldsmar has been the winner of the Triumph of Spirit and placed
amongst the “Best of the Best” for Quality Assurance Operations
from Marriott International.
In 2002 his Hampton Inn, Clearwater, was ranked in the top 5% nationally and
3rd in the State of Florida. In 1998 Mr. Menna’s Holiday Inn, Port Richey,
received the prestigious “Hotel of the Year Award” for having
the highest rating in guest satisfaction and revenue. Additionally, Mr. Menna’s
hotels have received numerous Gold Hospitality Awards from Choice Hotels,
which is given to only the top 3% performing hotels in the country for the
brand. Through the years Mr. Menna and his hotels have received many other
awards.
Mr. Menna is currently the principal partner/owner in multiple lodging facilities.
This includes the newly renovated full service St. Petersburg Marriott Clearwater
Hotel in St. Petersburg, FL. In addition, in 2008 MDM opened the first Generation
8 version of Marriott International’s Residence Inn Hotel in Lutz, FL.
The Lutz Residence Inn has recently been featured in Marriott International’s
national advertising and commercial campaigns for its Residence Inn brand.
Mr. Menna also owns and manages a cluster of Courtyard by Marriott and Residence
Inn in Oldsmar, FL.
Currently under development are three (3) new hotels in the Tampa Bay Market.
A Springhill Suites by Marriott and TownePlace Suites by Marriot hotels, which
will be located in Tampa. Also in development is an extended stay hotel that
will be located in St. Petersburg’s Midtown District. The new hotel
will be serving the many hospitals and other businesses located in that market.
A student of the University of Florida, Mr. Menna is also a Certified Real
Estate Appraiser and Broker, Certified Mortgage Broker and a Florida Board
of Real Estate Certified Instructor. He is a licensed General Contractor in
the State of Florida. Mr. Menna has also been a Certified Hospitality Administrator
for the past 15 years.
